Why we do this
The state plays an important role in systemic changes in the country. As a non-profit organization, we find out what problems our patients face in the process of helping people. We are also in partnership with government agencies to work together to ultimately improve the quality of life and preserve the health of every person.
How it works
We communicate with government officials, doctors and defend the interests of homeless people and their right to receive medical care, regardless of the presence or absence of documents and appearance. We act as experts in street medicine at conferences, round tables and various meetings with representatives of government agencies.
We send proposals to federal and regional health and social care institutions based on the analysis of the problems and our experience working on the street. We also advocate for homeless people whose rights have been violated.
Results of work in 2021:
- We have established cooperation with the city dermatovenereological dispensary. Now any patient without documents can take tests for syphilis for free and receive the necessary treatment in a hospital on the referral from Charity hospital.
- After negotiations with the Primorsky District Health Department, on-site vaccination of the homeless, including those without documents, against COVID-19 and seasonal flu was launched. Since July, we have conducted 8 visits and continue our cooperation.
- We made a number of proposals to the roadmap of St. Petersburg for the provision of medical care to the homeless for 2022-2025 based on our 4-year experience working on the streets and in shelters.
- We participated in a personal meeting with First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Sergey Vladilenovich Kiriyenko, as a result of which the Ministry of Health received our proposals to change federal orders so that vaccination against COVID-19 for undocumented patients became available throughout the country.
- After consulting with lawyers, we began to take consent to the disclosure of medical secrets from homeless patients. Thus, we managed to obtain lost information about treatment from public hospitals and identified violations of the rights of the homeless to medical care in several cases.
